HYALURONATES (HYALURONIC ACID)
Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance, found in human tissues, that gives the skin its volume and healthy appearance. One of its main functions is to carry water and retain it in the cells. The hyaluronic acid used, as an implant, in cosmetic dermatology comes in gel form in different concentrations and densities. The gel is injected into the tissue to eliminate fine lines, to fill in deep lines (folds), to shape the contours of the face, particularly the cheekbones, lips and chin and to increase the lips' volume.
The effect of hyaluronic acid is long lasting, from 8 to 24 months, depending on the type of treatment and the product used, but it is not permanent. When the treatment is stopped, the residual product is reabsorbed by the body and the skin returns to its original condition.
Prior testing is not required as in bovine implants, and a treatment session lasts about 30 minutes. Significant improvement can be expected after one treatment. At times touch ups may be required.
