TREATMENT OF WRINKLES
Botox | Injectable Implants | Hyaluronates (hyaluronic acid) | Collagen
Areas of the face treated:
Aging of the skin
Aging of the skin is an inevitable process. The tissues sag and lose their elasticity and the skin thins and becomes flaccid. Wrinkles form and deepen over the years, in addition to wrinkles that are caused by facial expressions. Lips tend to lose their shape and retract, giving the face a sad appearance. New developments in science and technology have recently been developed to correct some of the effects of skin aging or other skin problems. The Montreal Cosmetic Dermatology Clinic has the latest equipment and highly skilled staff to provide the best possible care for its clients. In addition, most of the treatments available at the clinic take just a few minutes, so you can get right on with your day.
Wrinkle Smoothing Solutions
Constant use of the forehead muscles can lead to the development of deep vertical wrinkles between the eyes (glabellar lines) or worry lines (horizontal lines on the forehead), which can give your face a serious, stressed or anxious expression and make you look older than you actually are. Frequent laughing can also lead to the formation of crow's feet. These wrinkles can be smoothed out or even completely eliminated with Botox injections.
Botox is the trade name for Botulinum toxin type A, a purified toxin derived from the Clostridium botulinum bacteria. The injection of this toxin directly into certain specific muscles blocks the nerve impulse from reaching these tissues, causing the muscles to relax. As the muscles relax, the frown lines between the eyebrows and on the forehead are smoothed out and crow's feet disappear.
The treatment starts to act three to seven days after the injection, and the results can last for four to six months.
Botox has been used safely and very successfully in neurology for the past 20 years, and in ophthalmology for about 15 years to treat a number of eye problems. Botox has been part of the therapeutic arsenal in dermatology for about 12 years.
Most common side effects of Botox are temporary and reversible. These include minor bruising at the injection site and temporary headache or a feeling of pressure in the forehead.
Injectable Implants
Nasogenian wrinkles (folds appearing on each side of the mouth) can give the face a harsh, severe or even depressed appearance, while perioral lines (folds around the mouth) can make you look older. It is possible to reduce or even completely erase these lines in some cases using hyaluronate implants (e.g. Restylane®, Restylane® Fine Lines, Perlane®, Juvéderm®18, 24 or 30, Hylaform®), collagen (e.g. CosmoDerm™, CosmoPlast™, Zyderm®, Zyplast®) or Dermalive® and Dermadeep®. These injectable implants can also be used to reshape thin lips, while maintaining a natural look.
(hyaluronic acid)Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance in human tissue that gives the skin its volume and healthy appearance. One of its main functions is to carry water and hold it in the cells. The hyaluronic acid used in cosmetic dermatology comes in gel form in different concentrations and densities. The gel is injected into the tissue to eliminate wrinkles and fine lines, to fill in deep lines, shape the contours of the face, particularly the cheekbones and chin, and increase lip volume.
The effect of hyaluronic acid is long-lasting, from 6 to 12 months, depending on the type of treatment and the product used, but it is not permanent. After the treatments stop, the residual product is gradually reabsorbed by the body and the skin returns to its original condition. Prior testing is not required and a treatment session lasts about 30 minutes. Significant cosmetic improvement can be expected after just one session. "Top-up" treatments may be necessary.
After the injection, some reactions commonly associated with the mechanical action of the needle may occur (sensitivity, itching, swelling, bruising) but they generally subside without treatment within 24 to 48 hours. The reaction may last for up to seven days with lip treatment.
Restylane®, Restylane® Fine Lines, Perlane®
Restylane®, Restylane® Fine Lines and Perlane® are non-animal forms of hyaluronic acid. They are available in different densities contained in a 20% gel concentrate.
Juvéderm® 18, 24 and 30
Juvéderm® is a non-animal form of hyaluronic acid available in different densities and concentrations ranging from 18 to 24%.
Hylaform®
Hylaform® is a natural biological product in a 5% gel concentrate that is injected just below the surface of the skin to restore the lost collagen layer and smooth out facial wrinkles and certain types of scars.
Collagen is actually part of the support structure of your skin. With aging, the collagen layer thins and wrinkles appear on the surface of the skin. Other factors such as sun exposure and heredity have a negative impact on the natural collagen in the skin. The marks left on your skin by the years and environmental factors can be erased and your skin given a more youthful appearance by replacing the missing collagen with bovine or human collagen synthesized in the laboratory.
A few reactions usually associated with the mechanical action of the needle may occasionally occur (sensitivity, itching, bruising), but they generally subside within 24 to 48 hours.
CosmoDerm™ and CosmoPlast™
CosmoDerm™ and CosmoPlast™ are products derived from human collagen grown under controlled laboratory conditions, using the same techniques as tissue cultures developed for major burn victims. Since this collagen is similar to the collagen found naturally in the skin, there is no need for a pre-treatment skin test. The results generally last from three to six months.
Zyderm® and Zyplast®
Zyderm® and Zyplast® are products derived from highly purified bovine collagen. Since bovine collagen may cause allergic reactions, two tests have to be performed four weeks prior to the procedure to screen for any allergic reaction to the product. The results normally last from three to six months.
Dermalive® and Dermadeep®
Dermalive® and Dermadeep® are semi-permanent injectable products, consisting of soft acrylic hydrogel particles in a non-animal carrier, hyaluronic acid. The hyaluronic acid dissolves a few weeks after the injection, giving the particles time to position themselves correctly in the dermis. The presence of these micro-particles in the dermis stimulates the formation of new collagen, which fills in the wrinkle. Since hyaluronic acid dissolves at different rates in different people, a touch-up may be required to achieve the desired results.
A treatment session takes approximately 30 minutes depending on the areas to be injected. You can resume your normal activities immediately after the treatment. The acrylic hydrogel has been safely used in more than 500,000 intraocular implants. Dermalive® and Dermadeep® are different from other implants in that they last much longer, up to several years. However, as the aging process continues, it is possible that one or two touch-up sessions may be required after a few years.
There may be some redness, swelling, or pain after the injection, but these symptoms generally disappear within a few hours or days.
